Free Online Practice 3rd Grade Achievement Tests

Many states give standardized 3rd grade achievement tests to students in math and reading. The scores are often used to determine if schools are succeeding in bringing all children up to grade level. Classroom instruction may prepare your child for 3rd grade achievement tests, but you might also want your child to complete free online practice at home in order to get used to the types of questions that will be on such an exam.

The Texas Education Agency's Released Tests and Study Guides

Many states have free sample problems and released tests available on their board of education websites. If you can't find free tests on your state's site, you can use the released 2009 3rd grade TAKS tests from the archives of the Texas Education Agency. The TAKS is based on typical core curriculum standards for the 3rd grade and can be either viewed online or downloaded as a PDF file. These released exams are available both in English and Spanish.

In addition to the released tests, you and your 3rd grader may also use the study guides made available by the Texas Education Agency. In the 3rd grade guide, you will find preparation tips and a variety of review activities designed for you to complete with your child.
