3rd Grade Reading TAKS Practice Test and Questions

The TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) exam is administered to Texas 3rd graders in reading and math. In the reading section, students are assessed for reading comprehension and fluency. If your child needs some additional reading practice, you can provide enrichment material and practice tests from the following websites.

Study Guides and Released Tests from the Texas Education Agency

For the main source of information about the TAKS test, including downloadable study guides, check out the Texas Education Agency's website. Because the TAKS study guides contain a large amount of information, they are presented as low resolution PDF files so that download times are swift.

If your child needs test-specific practice, he or she can complete released TAKS tests. The 3rd grade TAKS exam can be taken online in your browser window or downloaded as a PDF file. This can be useful if you want to print out the test and mimic the real test taking experience. The most recent released exams are from 2009 and are available in English or Spanish along with answer keys and scoring guides.

Practice Exams from Representative Scott Hochberg

Texas State Representative Scott Hochberg's website is a solid alternative to the Texas Education Agency's site for practice tests. Although the released TAKS exams that you'll find at this site are the same ones made available from the Texas Education Agency, they are presented in a different format. You can choose between the sites to determine which you and your child prefer.

Standardized Test Practice from EDinformatics

For information about a variety of standardized tests, check out EDinformatics. This site will provide you and your child with useful information about standardized tests administered all over the nation. Many of these 3rd grade exams are based on very similar core learning standards to the TAKS and therefore can often help your child prepare for it. EDinformatics provides links to the Department of Education websites for a number of states as well as many practice exams and practice questions that your child can take and have graded instantly online.
