3rd Grade TAKS Practice Tests and Prep Resources

The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) is given to Texas students beginning in 3rd grade. The test is used to determine how well students are meeting the state standards. For 3rd graders, the test covers math and reading.

Practice Questions from the Texas Education Agency

Here, you can download PDF files of previous TAKS test questions. The 3rd grade tests mostly contain multiple-choice questions. Give your child a practice test and answer booklet to help her become accustomed to the types of questions that she'll encounter on the TAKS test. You can also find information booklets that provide an overview of the objectives and the number of questions there will be for each objective.

Also available from this site are study guides for each grade level. The guides are in PDF format, so you can either print them or have your child view the pages online. The 3rd grade reading study guide contains advice for parents, a section for you to work on with your child and individual practice for students. Similarly, the math study guide provides practice problems along with answer explanations that parents and students can go over together.

Games and Practice Tests from SoftSchools.com

You can find games, quizzes, worksheets and tests that are specifically designed for 3rd grade TAKS review at SoftSchools.com. One caveat to this site is that it features a lot of advertising; however, it provides useful TAKS prep resources. The quizzes and games can be completed entirely online, but the worksheets must be printed.

One game, called the 'Integer Number Line Game,' requires students to read points on a number line. The answers are instantly graded, with fun sounds to coincide with correct and incorrect answers. Although the number line and telling time worksheets do not include answer keys, they provide practice with multiple-choice questions.

Tips 4 TAKS' Test-Taking Tips

Tips 4 TAKS provides test-taking strategies and online practice quizzes. Review these tips with your child so that he knows how to tackle difficult problems and mentally prepare for the exam. For instance, one tip suggests that students skip over hard questions to avoid spending too much time on one question in particular.

The online 3rd grade quizzes cover both math and reading topics; however, the topics are not separated. If you know what you're looking for, such as extra homophone practice, you'll be able to easily find it because the links are in alphabetical order. Each quiz is fairly short, so your child won't lose interest, and they are graded instantly online.
