4th Grade CRCT Test Prep and Practice

Every question on the CRCT (Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests) is based on Georgia's learning standards, called the GPS (Georgia Performance Standards). Your child's teacher will probably teach the GPS over the course of the school year, which will help prepare your child for the test. However, you can also use practice exams to help at home. Keep reading for 4th grade CRCT preparation information.

Students who live in Georgia take the CRCT every year from grades 1-8. On the 4th grade CRCT, your child will be tested on reading, English/language arts, science, math and social studies. Questions are typically presented in a multiple-choice format.

Exam Preparation from the Georgia Department of Education

If you want to know more about the subjects tested on the CRCT, you can download the 4th grade study guide provided by the Georgia Department of Education, or else view it online. The study guide provides general information about the CRCT, including how it's scored and why your child must take it.

The guide has a chapter for each section of the CRCT, and each chapter has several subsections. The chapter on science, for example, is divided into sections about life science, physical science and earth science. Each chapter ends with a practice quiz and answer key.

In addition to the study guide, the Georgia Department of Education also provides practice CRCT tests. To gain access to them, you or your child must log into the Online Assessment System (OAS). If your child hasn't been provided with a login name and password by his or her school, you can simply write 'grade4' for both. It might also be necessary to disable your pop-up blocker. There are multiple practice tests available for all five subjects that the CRCT will cover.

Unity Grove Elementary School's Practice Questions

For an alternative to the Georgia Department of Education, try Unity Grove Elementary School's website for CRCT practice questions. The questions are divided into useful subsections so that you can pick and choose them based on what areas your child needs the most help with. For example, the 4th grade language section includes questions about organization, paragraph content, research process, grammar, mechanics, revision and sentence construction. You can download the questions as PDF files and print them out. The questions are multiple-choice and an answer key is provided; however, there aren't any explanations.
