Prepdog.com's Practice Tests

Prepdog has reading practice tests aligned to the Common Core State Standards. The test forms are divided into advanced, proficient and basic levels so you can challenge your child without causing frustration.

There are several levels for each test covering all of the reading skills 4th graders will be tested on, including fact and opinion, cause and effect, comprehension, inference and drawing conclusions. After completing the test online, your child can check his or her work by clicking the button at the bottom of the page.

Resources from Super Teacher Worksheets

Super Teacher Worksheets has downloadable worksheets covering cause and effect, fact and opinion as well as reading comprehension. The reading worksheets are categorized by genre, such as fiction, non-fiction and biography. There's also a poetry section and a reader's theater script for a group of seven.

Most of the reading passages are one page long, so your child won't lose interest. There are multiple-choice and short answer questions, which are designed to reinforce reading comprehension skills. A vocabulary activity is also included as well as an answer key. In addition to reading comprehension, you can access grammar and phonics worksheets on this website.

Houghton Mifflin's Education Place Activities

Education Place has high-interest activities categorized by theme to match books. Your child can read background information about the author, play an e-word game and access a glossary. An activities link leads to crossword puzzles and other activities, such as writing a book review and e-mailing a poem to a friend.

The themes include journeys, heroes, American stories and nature. There are several bilingual authors represented, whose books are available in Spanish and English. The Weekly Reader helps kids stay current with interesting articles geared to their age group. Book Adventure encourages children to take quizzes on books they've read and win prizes.
