ELA Practice Tests at EDinformatics

Use the sample tests at EDinformatics to help your child prepare for his English and language arts test. You can find 5th grade standardized tests from previous years for states including New York, Massachusetts and Texas.

Some states, like Texas, provide interactive tests with reading comprehension questions that must be completed online and are instantly graded. Alternatively, you can print Texas 5th grade tests from previous years. Massachusetts and New York also offer printable tests. Answer keys may be provided.

Most ELA tests evaluate students using fiction and nonfiction reading passages as well as both multiple-choice and essay questions. Most states offer practice tests, so you may want to refer to your own state's department of education to make sure the test matches your state's standards.

Houghton Mifflin's Grammar Practice

Houghton Mifflin provides fun, interactive quizzes for grades 2-5 on grammar rules. Each quiz has ten questions in multiple-choice format. Students earn points for their right answers, which turns review into a fun game. If your child answers correctly on her first try, then ten points are awarded. If the answer is correct the second time, she receives five points. In 5th grade, the topics include nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns and prepositions. There are also cumulative review quizzes for an additional challenge.

Games and Quizzes from SoftSchools.com

Help your child review language usage in a fun and interactive way using these games and quizzes. Although the majority of this site has math-related games, at the bottom of the page there are games and quizzes on homophones, language usage and grammar. In the game that tests singular and plural noun spelling, players earn a star for every correct answer. You could also use the word search generator to help your child review vocabulary words.
