Reading Worksheets from RHL School

RHL School has free reading comprehension worksheets available to download. You can select from poems, essays, stories and articles suitable for upper elementary through middle school aged children. Answer keys are also available.

The worksheet titled 'Word Meanings' is a great starting point for 7th graders who need extra help with context clues. Kids choose a synonym to match an underlined word in a sentence. Another worksheet, called 'I Build Walls' uses poetry to assess students' comprehension skills. This poetry worksheet includes follow-up questions that involve personal reflection.

'Campaign Finance Reform' teaches kids to use context clues through a fill-in-the-blank method. The passage contains blank spaces for missing words, which students can select from the bottom of the page.

EnglishForEveryone.org has reading comprehension worksheets available for beginning to advanced students. Beginning and intermediate worksheets are approximately 500 words long, while advanced worksheets are 500-1,000 words long. All worksheets are designed to practice critical thinking skills, such as deductive reasoning and tonal analysis. Answer keys are provided.

'The Singing Bird' is an illustrated short story for beginning readers followed by six comprehension questions. In 'Bullied', kids read the intermediate-level short story and answer comprehension and deductive reasoning questions. In the advanced-level story, 'Scorpion', kids are asked to identify synonyms, antonyms and answer inference questions.
