The Texas Education Agency's Study Guides and Released Tests

For a plethora of information and TAKS practice resources, look no further than the Texas Education Agency. The 7th grade TAKS exam is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). To help your child brush up these skills, the Texas Education Agency has made 7th grade study guides available in English and Spanish. Because these study guides are so large, they are available as low-resolution PDF files.

Shortly before the test date, your child can take a TAKS practice test. You can download and print these practice tests along with scoring guides and answer keys. The state of Texas releases new exams periodically, but the most recent reading test that you can find is from 2009.

Released Tests from Scott Hochberg's Website

Check out Texas State Representative Scott Hochberg's website for an alternative to the Texas Education Agency's released exams. The released reading test that Scott Hochberg has made available on his website is the same one you can get from the Texas Education Agency. However, it's presented in a different format. Additionally, you will find a cover letter with information about test, such as how many questions your child will need to answer correctly in order to pass. You and your child can check out the 7th grade TAKS exams on both sites and see which ones you prefer.

Reading Comprehension Quizzes from Book Adventure

One of the most effective ways for your 7th grader to prepare for the reading TAKS is for him or her to read frequently. Book Adventure's website has free reading comprehension quizzes, which provide solid practice for reading tests like the TAKS. There are over 7,000 books listed by Book Adventure with multiple-choice quizzes for each of them. There are also online and printable reading games that can be useful for when your child is preparing for the TAKS exam. To access these quizzes, you will need to register; however, registration is completely free.
