Practice ISAT Test for 7th and 8th Grade Middle School Students

Children in Illinois take the ISAT (Illinois Standards Achievement Test) every spring. One of the ways that you can help your child get ready is with practice exams. Keep reading for information about practice exams and other test preparation resources that can help your 7th or 8th grader.

Find available tutors

Students in the 7th grade typically take the ISAT in reading, math and science, while students in the 8th grade take it in reading, math and writing. However, the 8th grade writing exam has been suspended for the 2011-2012 school year. Like many standardized tests, the ISAT is primarily presented in a multiple-choice format.

Although your child's teacher will provide a lot of preparation activities in school, you may want to encourage your child to take practice ISAT tests at home. Taking a practice test can help your child get used to the types of questions on the test and test-taking itself.

Practice Tests from the Illinois State Board of Education

The Illinois State Board of Education has several practice ISAT tests available for free on its website. These are presented in the form of downloadable ISAT sample books. These books also include relevant information about the ISAT and answer keys.

Interactive Test Questions from MetaLogic

Although the site links to the standard ISAT sample books from the Illinois State Board of Education, your child can also complete interactive ISAT sample questions online offered by MetaLogic through its information management system, MetaCat. The sample questions are on the typical subject areas, such as reading and math, and are from 2009, 2010 and 2011. The questions in every section are presented one at a time with a status bar showing the percentage of questions your child has answered and how many are left. Upon completing a test, your child will click 'finish'. He or she will then be provided with a full answer key and assessment of the correct and incorrect answers.

Test Preparation Resources from Fact Monster

Whatever educational materials you may be looking for, you will likely find them at Fact Monster. At this site you can find worksheets, activities and games for math, English/language arts, science and social studies. Each of these subjects is broken down into a number of subsections so that you can easily find what your child needs.
