Where Can I Find ABC Math Games?

Many children love playing math games because they get to have fun while solving math problems. You may end up loving math games as well since you won't have nag your child as much to practice math. The following sites offer free math activities for kids.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Free Games

You can find many great math games for your child from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). This site has free games that give kids the opportunity to practice a variety of math skills, including basic number sense. You'll find 15 online games that use festive cartoons and music to engage children with math concepts.

On the games page you'll see headings for the 15 math games, which list the type of math used in that particular game and a brief description of the game's objectives. Topics range from counting and finding basic number patterns to measurement and probability. You can play these games online or download them as self-running programs, meaning the Internet would not be needed to play them. These files work on both Mac and PC computers.

Because this site is Australian, it's written in British English, so some words may be spelled differently than they would be in American English. For instance, you may notice words like 'color' and 'favorite' spelled with a 'u'. As a result, you may want to explain to your child that this is not a mistake. It's just the way those words are spelled in countries that use British English (such as New Zealand, Canada and Australia). Even though this site is based in Australia, children in other parts of the world are welcome to play ABC math games.

Funschool's Math Games

You can find more fun math games here. Similar to the ABC games, these games are best suited for elementary school kids or middle schoolers looking for review. Your child can come here to practice multiplication, division and subtraction, as well as fractions or number patterns. The games take place entirely online, and cannot be printed out or downloaded for off-line use. This site offers 33 games, all of which employ dynamic graphic images to entertain and engage kids. If your son or daughter likes playing traditional video or computer games, he or she will probably enjoy these.
