Math Homework Help

Create a Schedule

Though math homework may be hard for you, it's important because it provides you with consistent and frequent practice. The more you practice math, the better you'll get at it. With that in mind, establish a routine for yourself, where you allot a certain amount of time each night to complete math homework. After you've completed the homework, remember to look it over for errors.

Find a Homework Buddy

You might have a friend who is also having trouble with math homework. Ask a few people and see if you can find someone whose strengths in math balance out yours. You may struggle with one math unit but excel at another, and your friend may understand what you don't.

Make a weekly appointment after school to work on math together. If you find out ahead of time what your friend needs help with, you can prepare a mini-lesson or explanation for him or her. In return, your friend may be able to do the same for you.

Take Practice Tests

You can prepare for upcoming tests and improve your scores on homework assignments by taking practice tests. Many tests are available online, but you can also make your own.

Make a practice test by going through your math textbook and writing down problems from each unit you've covered in class. Try to use problems that you haven't already answered in class or for homework. Then, set a timer, and then sit down to complete your homemade exam. Ask a parent or older sibling to grade your test for you.

Speak to Your Teacher

Your teacher will likely be able to supply you with study resources, such as old tests and extra practice problems. Ask to speak with your teacher after class and then explain that you would like to practice for upcoming assignments by taking practice exams. Many teachers keep their exams from previous years, so you may get lucky.

Even if your teacher doesn't have a sample exam to give you, she may be able to offer guidance. She may know if an available tutor who could help you with your homework, or she may even offer to help you herself. You can't expect this to happen, but whatever the outcome, it's always a good thing to let your teacher know you are working hard to improve.
