Homeschooling:

If your student is still a teenager under 18, consider homeschooling. Homeschooling allows a student to complete coursework similar to that of a traditional public or private high school. A significant benefit of homeschooling is that the student and the teacher or parent can work together to find a pace that helps the student get the most out of their education. This flexibility works particularly well for students who are either gifted or have learning disabilities. If your student is gifted, you could develop a more accelerated study program. If your teen has a learning disability, there are many teaching methods that apply to his or her particular situation.

Many students who participate in homeschooling are eligible to take the GED exam because their curriculum covers the same material. They can contact their local school district to find out how to enroll for the test and where it is held.

Online High School and GED Programs:

Several different online educational institutions offer high school programs in addition their college and technical school programs. These programs are similar to other high schools and will even mail you a diploma upon completing the appropriate coursework. Students are required to complete assignments by a deadline, but can log on at any time, day or night, to check messages and assignments. This program works well for students who are dedicated and motivated and have strong computer and communication skills.

Many education providers who have online high school programs also offer online GED prep programs. These programs are often similar to the high school programs because they cover similar material. GED prep programs focus on test taking strategies in addition to the required course material.
