Arizona GED Requirements:

Eligibility

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Must have proof of having withdrawn from high school
  • No previous high school diploma or GED

GED Exam Structure

The GED exam consists of the following five subject area sections:

  • Language Arts, Writing
    • Consists of a 45-minute essay composition
  • Language Arts, Reading
  • Mathematics
    • Consists of 2 parts
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Scoring

The minimum passing score is 410 on each test with an average of 450 for each test (or 2250 total score points). The possible range of scores is between 200 (lowest) and 800 (highest). Individuals are usually given the opportunity to retake failed parts of the exam as necessary. Check with your local testing facility for more details.

Registration and Fees

Individuals may register for the GED exam at any approved Arizona testing center. The fee for taking the exam is currently $75.00. Again, check with your local center for detailed pricing.

Preparation:

Visit your local library or bookstore to view the available GED practice materials. Inquire at your local community college or adult learning center for information about GED prep courses.
