GED Florida: The Florida GED Test - Get Prepared!
Earning a General Education Development (GED) certificate can open new doors of opportunity. Read this article for more information about attaining a GED in Florida.
The GED tests will give you the opportunity to earn the equivalent of a Florida High School Diploma. Passing each subject section will earn you a GED diploma, issued by the Florida State Department of Education. Many employers and colleges accept this certificate as they would a traditional high school diploma, which may result in a brighter personal and professional future.
Eligibility
In order to take Florida's GED exam, you:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
- Must be a resident of Florida
- Must have been withdrawn from high school for six months
- Not a high school graduate
- Must take the 2002-series official GED Practice Test
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing (includes 45 minute essay question)
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (a calculator may be used on Part 1, not Part 2)
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. Individuals may retake all or part of the exam until passing scores are achieved.
Registration and Fees
Registration must be completed at any Florida testing site There is a fee of $50 to take the exam (or $10 per section). Bring sufficient ID with your social security number and proof of residence.
Preparation
Preparation programs are provided at testing centers at no cost to the student. The Official GED Practice Test is available at these testing centers. Preparation programs are also available a at community colleges or other institutions.
