GED Georgia: Taking the Georgia GED Exam

The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE), www.dtae.org, states that having a GED could make a world of difference in your life: promotions, better jobs, more money, and a higher standard of living can all be yours. Even $500 vouchers towards continuing education may be available to qualified individuals.
Georgia GED Requirements:
Eligibility
In order to take the GED exam you:
- Must be at least 16 years of age or older
- Must be a resident of the Georgia
- Must have withdrawn from high school at least six months ago
- Not a high school graduate
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Writing Skills - Part I
- Writing Skills - Part II
- Comprised of a 45-minute essay composition
- Mathematics (Part I allows use of a calculator; Part II does not)
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing (includes 45 minute essay question)
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (calculator may be used only on Part 1)
- Science
- Social Studies
Registration and Fees
Registration must be completed at any official Georgia testing center. There is a fee of $55 to take the exam (or $11 per section). Bring sufficient ID with your social security number and proof of residence.
