GED Kansas: Requirements for Earning You Kansas GED

Kansas GED Requirements:
Eligibility
According to the Kansas Department of Education, www.ksbe.state.ks.us, individuals must meet the following requirements in order to take the GED exam:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
- Must be a resident of Kansas
- Must have withdrawn from a regular high school program for at least six months
- Not a high school graduate
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing
- Comprised of a 45-minute essay composition
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (Part 1 and 2)
- Part 1 allows the use of a calculator while part 2 does not
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. The entire test, or individual sections, can be retaken until a passing grade is earned.
Registration and Fees
Registration must be completed at any official Kansas testing center. Contact the Kansas State Board of Education, www.ksbe.state.ks.us, for a complete list of testing centers in the state. There is a fee of $25 to take the exam (retaking an exam also costs $25). Bring your social security number, proof of Kansas residency, along with the required photo identification.
