GED Pennsylvania: What Is the Pennsylvania GED Test?
Employers want to hire individuals with at least high school diploma or GED. Take the GED exam to increase your employment opportunities and self-confidence. Read on to learn more about the state of Pennsylvania's rules and regulations regarding the GED exam.
Pennsylvania's GED Requirement:
Eligibility
Individuals must meet the following requirements in order to take the GED exam, www.adultliteracy.org:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older (age requirements may vary, check with your local testing center for more details)
- Must be a Pennsylvania resident
- Must have withdrawn from a regular high school program for at least six months
- Not a high school graduate
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing
- A 45 minute essay question.
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (Part 1 and 2)
- A calculator may be used on Part 1 only.
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. Individuals may retake all or part of the exam until a passing score is achieved.
Registration and Fees
Registration must be completed at any of the over 150 testing centers in Pennsylvania. The usual cost range is from $40-$60 for the entire five test GED exam. Check with your local testing center for more details. Photo ID, along with your social security number and proof of Pennsylvania residency is required to register for the exam.
Preparation
Visit your local library or bookstore to view the available GED practice materials. Inquire at your local community college or adult learning center for information about GED prep courses.
