GED Rhode Island: The Rhode Island GED Test

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements vary by testing center. Contact your local facility for more details or visit Rhode Island's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website at www.ridoe.net.

Exam Format

The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:

  • Language Arts - Writing (includes 45 minute essay question)
  • Language Arts - Reading
  • Mathematics (calculator may be used on Part 1, not Part 2)
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Scoring

The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. Individuals may retake all or part of the exam until passing scores are achieved.

Registration and Fees

Contact the Rhode Island Department of Education, www.ridoe.net, for a list of approved testing locations. Exam fees vary by location, so your local testing center will be the best source of fee and registration information.

Visit your local library or bookstore to view the available GED practice materials. Inquire at your local community college or adult learning center for information about GED prep courses.
