Learning Games for Toddlers

From a very early age, children develop important and necessary learning skills. It happens through interaction with others and also by playing learning games. Learning games stimulate young minds and contribute to the growth and development of social and cognitive skills, physical coordination and problem solving skills.

These games do not have to be elaborate or expensive. There are many simple and easy learning games for toddlers. For physical development, hop scotch and skipping promote coordination, and usually incorporate counting as well. For cognitive and memory skills a matching game like dominoes, is a great way for kids to master basic addition, and improve their memory. Simple puzzles and shape identification games abound, all of which are inexpensive, fun, and effective ways to actively engage your child in learning.

Math, reading, problem solving, language, and memory skills are all developed when children are young. Find games and activities that encourage children to learn these skills. Creative activities and games, such as Play-Doh or coloring, foster creative exploration.

Continually feed your toddler's curiosity by introducing new games and interacting with your child regularly. Playing games does more than just entertain a child. It gives children a head start on the skills they need and will continue to develop throughout life.
