Useful Homework Tips for Parents

Parents play a large role in their child's education; especially when it comes to homework. Read on to learn more about how you can help your child succeed when it comes time to complete his or her homework assignments.

Find available tutors

A large part of a child's educational success is the parental guidance that influences him or her. Homework will always be a part of your child's education, and it is important to start off on the right foot. There are several ways to help encourage your child to complete high quality homework.

Be a Role Model

Actions speak louder than words. Show a strong interest in your child's homework and stress its importance. Ask about all assignments and offer help if needed. Show your child how to be organized by introducing a planner where he or she can write down due dates and daily assignments.

Create an Atmosphere for Learning

During quiet homework time, read a book or magazine so that there is a definite and clear learning-conducive atmosphere. Eliminate all distractions and find an appropriate place for your child to complete his or her homework every day. This can create a routine which will make homework less of a dreaded chore and more a part of your child's day to day life.

Parent-Teacher Communication

Communicate with your child's teacher. Find out what's going being taught in the classroom and how to make homework time more effective. Be sure to constantly praise your child for high quality, completed homework that is turned in on time. Simple words of encouragement and praise can boost a child's self-esteem and provide positive feedback for hard work.
