Free Math Test's Online Quizzes

You may find that your child can work independently on these computer-based quizzes once you set them up. The site allows you to select how many problems will appear on each quiz, as well as what topic or topics will be covered. Your son or daughter can then complete the quizzes online. Once he or she is finished, the quiz will be corrected. Three broad categories from which to select quiz topics are fundamental math, elementary math and pre-algebra.

Freemathtest.com is a relatively calm site, lacking the flashing lights, loud sounds and busy graphics common to children's math sites. For this reason, you may find this site particularly helpful if your son or daughter is sensitive to distractions.

Online Questions from ThatQuiz.org

While these math quiz questions are not divided by grade level, you can easily locate problems suitable for elementary and middle school students. The four main headings are integers, fractions, concepts and geometry, and under these are even more specific topics. If you are looking for a division quiz, for example, you would look under integers to find arithmetic, and further narrow your selection by choosing from addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. You can choose a level, a number of total problems and whether to include negatives. There are also quizzes dealing with measurement, telling time, identifying geometric shapes and evaluating simple graphs.

A built-in timer gives your child an added challenge - how quickly can she answer 10 questions? 20? One problem appears onscreen at a time, and once your child types in an answer and presses 'enter' a new problem will come up. Meanwhile, over on the right, a small box lets her know whether she got the last one right. Your child may benefit from a basic online math quiz because it will allow her to monitor her own progress. Based on her quiz scores, she will know which part of the math unit was hard for her and what to focus on when studying for the test.
