You can check your state's board of education website for your sample tests or use the free, released tests from the Illinois State Board of Education. You will find PDF math tests for grades 3-8. Although they are based on the Illinois education standards, the math found on each test should roughly correspond to the concepts covered where you live. These tests could also be helpful to simply assess your child's skill level regardless of his or her current grade.
Math-Drills.com Printable Worksheets
You can use these free basic math worksheets as at-home tests or quizzes for your child. Answer keys are available for each of them, and there are dozens of sheets for a variety of elementary math topics. The drills found here can help your child review specific math skills, including adding, subtracting and comparing numbers. Because these are meant as worksheets rather than tests, they aren't timed, but you could simply set a stopwatch or kitchen timer to give your son or daughter the realistic sense of taking a timed test at school.
Online Tests from FreeMathTest.com
These free online math tests allow your child to complete questions on the computer and immediately find out where he made mistakes. The tests are customizable, so you can make them extra short to reduce stress, or long to really prepare your child for an end of year exam. Some of the tests use pictures or diagrams, while others are simple written equations.
These tests can be printed, but you will have to correct them yourself. The tests offered here might make good weekly review quizzes to help your child's skills stay sharp so that when the time comes for a big test at school, he or she will be relaxed and ready.
