Children's IQ Test Information
Should I Give My Child A Children's IQ Test?
You may be tempted to give your child an IQ test in order to find out his or her aptitude for academic achievement. IQ (intelligence quotient) tests are designed to measure a child's innate intelligence rather than how much he or she has learned. The IQ score can provide valuable information about your child's abilities, which you can use when making decisions about his or her education.
Before giving your child a children's IQ test, though, you may want to consider any possible ramifications. Many children have heard about IQ tests and may become discouraged if don't receive a high score. This attitude could lead to worse achievement in school. Similarly, academic decisions should never be based on just one test score. Your observations and those of your child's teacher, written work and other test scores should all hold a lot of weight. IQ tests also don't measure multiple intelligences and may not tell you if your child has an aptitude for a specific subject area or discipline.
