If your junior high student would rather play video games than do homework, online math games may help ignite interest in math. The following sites offer free games meant to help kids develop their math skills and have fun at the same time.

Eight free online math games are available here. Your child will probably find the interface very easy to use, and the instructions straightforward and clear. The site was created by an experienced mathematician and teacher, and is designed to make math practice fun and engaging. Some of the games will have your child adding numbers with decimal points; others will have her rounding up. Several games are modeled on other games, like blackjack, darts and concentration. You may need to download a special plug-in to make the games work on your computer, but it's free of charge.
