Discovery Education's Learning Tools

Discovery Education is a free source for learning tools in many different subjects and for several age groups. It has animations, games and articles on many K-12 learning subjects, including world languages, health, math, visual arts, performance arts, social studies, English and science. Discovery Education also offers many video tutorials, so if your child's a visual learner, this may be the site you've been looking for.

English/Language Arts Help from ReadWriteThink

ReadWriteThink has many types of resources for grammar, summarizing, organizing, writing, analyzing and higher order thinking skills. The free online tools your child can use from ReadWriteThink are called 'student interactives'. Since many of these interactives use Adobe Flash, you'll need Flash installed on your computer. One example is the 'book cover creator'. With this tool, your child can learn about how book covers are organized, what information is presented and how they can grab one's attention.

In addition, there are activities, lesson plans and printable worksheets. Choose from graphic organizers to writing prompts. Alternatively, sort though the after-school resources by grade level and choose an activity for your child to complete offline.

Math Nerds' Online Homework Help

Math Nerds is a free online math learning resource that offers more personal attention than many other learning sites. You or your child will need to register in order to use Math Nerds; however, there's no fee and you won't have to worry about spam. Whether your child needs homework assistance, help studying for a test or quiz or simply has a question, Math Nerds can help.

Math Nerds is staffed by a team of volunteers, most of whom are education professionals or students majoring in education and education-related fields. The majority of e-mail inquiries will be responded to within 16 hours. The volunteers at Math Nerds won't simply solve a problem for your child, but provide him or her with a full lesson.
