FELC Tutors

With funding from the U.S. government, FELC Tutors offers services free to students in elementary school through high school. To receive the services, students must be enrolled in a public school. The FELC tutoring sessions are held at the school sites that the students attend and may be administered in class settings, small groups or private one-on-one sessions. Tutors mainly focus on science, math and reading. In addition, students are able to get help on standardized test preparation.

Virginia Tutoring Services

Virginian Tutoring Services provides free one-on-one tutoring sessions in your home if your child qualifies under the No Child Left Behind law. To be approved, students must receive lunch for free or at a reduced price and attend a school that has not met the statewide passing standards for several years. Once enrolled with the tutoring service, students can receive assistance in math and science courses, as well as reading and writing. In addition, students will receive help with their organizational and study skills.

Madison House Programs

The University of Virginia's Madison House allows college students to volunteer and give back to their community by participating in a variety of tutoring and mentoring programs. Madison House offers a basic tutoring service, which takes place at various schools throughout Virginia. The tutoring sessions are mainly focused on math and reading skills, but help in other subjects is offered as well.

Another program led by the student volunteers is Cavs in the Classroom, which is held in elementary schools. The college helpers work as teaching assistants and help students with reading, math, spelling and other lessons. Finally, there's the Youth Mentoring Program held at Abundant Life. In this program, volunteers are assigned to mentor and tutor one child each week. The tutoring activities are constructed by a tutoring coordinator, and the volunteers also help with homework.
