Elementary Math Websites with Fun Tools and Activities

Various elementary math websites offer different features, including games, practice problems and lessons. You'll find several helpful activities on the sites listed here for your kids to practice math at home.

AAA Math's Lessons and Practice Problems

Your son or daughter can find written math lessons covering most topics taught in grades K-8, from addition to algebra. Instantly scored practice questions are available at the end of each lesson, so your child can test herself and see how well she understands the material she has just read. One of the nice things about this site is that it's organized both by topic and by grade level, so you can click on 4th grade, for example, and see all the lessons for that year, or you can just hone in on the unit your child needs to review.

AAA Math also sells CDs with comprehensive math lessons in Spanish and English. If you're satisfied with the lessons on the website, or are a non-native English speaker, these might be something to consider.

Free Math Videos from MathVids.com

Teachers from around the country contribute math explanation videos. The idea is that kids don't always connect with the math teacher they're placed with in school, and so here they have the opportunity to hear math concepts taught by a variety of teachers. Videos are available on elementary math topics, including addition, fractions, measurements and multiplication, in addition to more advanced topics for junior high, high school and college students. You can create a free username to allow your child access to all the videos.

Primary Games' Interactive Math Games

Here you'll find a variety of fun interactive math games for your elementary student. This site was designed by a professional computer specialist who designed educational computer games for a high school before creating Primary Games. Games have themes, like shopping and skateboarding to make math fun. The games use Adobe Flash, so you may have to install a free player before they'll work.

Also available are videos explaining math concepts. Kids and teachers appear in the videos, which may make watching them more fun for your child. The website also features science, social studies and language arts activities.
