PBS Kids' Educational Math Games

PBS Cyberchase has dozens of fun games that allow your child to practice various math concepts, including probability, fractions, angles and tangrams. These games are so visually appealing and exciting that your child may forget he or she is playing an educational game. All games and activities from PBS are modeled after the standards set forth by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Games aren't categorized by grade level or math concept; however, a handy parent and teacher's guide can help you find out what math skills are involved. If your child is grades 3-5, he or she will probably feel comfortable with most of the games from PBS Kids.

Free Math Activities from Funbrain.com

The Math Arcade has 25 free math games for children in grades 1-8. Before beginning play, your child can select his or her grade level in order to solve age-appropriate problems. Once your child has selected a grade, pictures will appear beside description of what type of math will be used. These pictures show the theme each game is based on, so your son or daughter may, for example, select a racecar game or a gorilla game, depending on his or her interests. The games here are fairly low-key with simple line drawings and no loud noises, so they may work well for sensitive or easily distractible children.

Math Playground's Cartoon Math Games

Math Playground has a mix of games for children of all ages - your child can practice multiplication, algebra and even graphing. Games are listed by math unit, so it's easy to find a game matching the skills your child is learning in school. Some of the games use fun, colorful graphics and engaging voices to hold students' interest, while others are calmer, without sound or flashing lights. Detectives, millionaires and the Olympics are some of the featured themes.
