Pearson Longman's Practice Reading Exams

Pearson Longman's website is a strong resource for online practice reading tests for grades 1-8. These test include reading passages, multiple-choice questions and written responses. Although the site does not automatically score the tests, there are detailed instructions on how to score the test yourself. When your child completes an exam, you can print it out for easy reference.

Standardized Reading Tests from the Illinois State Board of Education

It's likely that your state supplies practice exams that you can administer to your child at home. However, it can be useful to check out released exams from other states as well because the core learning standards for reading are similar across the U.S. The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT), offered by the Illinois State Board of Education, is a standardized test used to assess students in reading and math. The Illinois State Board of Education's website is a solid place to get information about the ISAT and standardized reading tests in general.

You and your child can also access interactive released tests and sample questions from the Illinois State Board of Education. These tests and questions are from 2009, 2010 and 2011 and cover grades 3-8. You can also download free printable ISAT study books.

Reading Comprehension Worksheets from Education.com

For a large variety of reading comprehension printable worksheets, called 'printables', check out Education.com. These worksheets can often be just as useful to your child as practice tests or assessments. You can search through the resources by grade level or by sub-topics. There are a number of sub-topics to choose from including comprehension, vocabulary, rhyming, literary analysis, nursery rhymes and sight words.
