Free Typing Games for Kids: Online Games that Teach Typing

Learning keyboarding skills is important for today's children. It's expected that children know how to type by middle school. Typing games are a good way to build a foundation in typing skills for elementary school children.

Find available tutors's Games and Lessons has lessons, games and tests that require no downloading or installation on your computer. Kids can instantly play such games as Meteor Typing Blast and Keyboard Revolution. The interactive typing lessons teach two keys at a time. Each lesson is followed up with a review of previous lessons. A certificate is awarded upon completion.

Typing tests help motivate kids to increase their speed and accuracy. Specific tests emphasize numbers, letters, punctuation and even different fingers. They're also available in Spanish, French and German.

Learning Games for Kids' Typing Activities has a typing course and games to keep kids motivated to learn the keyboard and increase their speed. Pre-school kids can start with games such as Homekey Kenneys, which develops mouse skills.

A typing course has ten levels of learning for pre-school to elementary school students. Games that teach the home keys are great places to start for kids in early elementary school to help them learn the keyboard. Additionally, Speedy Speller helps with spelling and typing as kids type out a spoken word as quickly as they can.

The Typing Playground's Games for Kids

At The Typing Playground, kids learn how to type and continue building typing skills with games, tests and a typing tutor. There's also a keyboarding directory for more resources about teaching kids to type.

In one game, called Type Down, players must type falling letters as quickly as they can before they reach the bottom. Typing tutor gives novices and seasoned 'hunt-and-peckers' touch typing practice. It has 26 different levels and three stages to accommodate a wide variety of skills levels. Competence must be demonstrated at each level before kids can move to the next.
