Get Organized

One of the first things you can do to help yourself succeed with homework assignments is to get organized. Many times, students have problems completing assignments at home because they forget what they are supposed to do or they lose the work. Don't let this happen to you.

Get individual folders for the subjects in school (math, reading, science, etc.) so you can keep the different assignments separated. It's also a good idea to use a daily planner. In it, you can make a note of all the assignments you need to complete when you get home. Being organized will help you keep up with your homework assignments and ensure that you get them completed and turned in on time.

Concentrate in Class

When your teacher is presenting a lesson in class, make sure you are concentrating and listening to what is being taught. Since the homework assignments you receive will be based on the material you were supposed to learn in class, it's important that you focus and not allow yourself to be distracted. One way you can accomplish this is by actively taking notes about the lesson in a notebook.

Ask Questions Before You Leave

After your teacher has finished giving a lesson or after you have been given the homework assignment, be sure to ask questions right away if you don't understand something. Your teachers are there to help you, but they can't do that if you don't let them know that you need help. Be sure to raise your hand to ask questions or meet with your teacher in private before you leave school for the day. The last thing you want is to be confused about a homework assignment once you've left class.

Take Your Time

Although you usually have to have homework assignments completed and turned in by a certain time - often by the next day - you shouldn't rush through the work. When you go through an assignment quickly, you run the risk of making a lot of small and big mistakes that can cause you to receive a low grade. Therefore, relax and take your time. Make sure you are really focusing on the assignment and understand what you're required to do. In addition, when you do finish, take the time to look over the work and check for errors.
