Passing the 9th Grade: Tips for Students

Avoid Absences

As stated earlier, the material you'll be learning in the 9th grade will play a big role in your advancement to graduation, so you need to be present in class. When you're absent a lot, it becomes very easy for you to fall behind, and it can be hard to bounce back in the 9th grade. This is mainly because 9th grade students often struggle to deal with a heavier workload than they had in their intermediate/middle school days. Not to mention, you may be involved with more extracurricular and social activities that can make it difficult to catch up on missing assignments and lessons. So, do your best to make it to school every day.

Set Goals

As a high school freshman, setting short and long term goals can also play a major role in passing the 9th grade. Goals help you challenge yourself. In addition, setting goals allow you to concentrate on success as you go through the school year. The goals you establish can be about maintaining certain grades or developing and maintaining beneficial habits, like completing your work on time and participating in class. In other words, setting goals gives you something to strive for, and when you're striving for something, you tend to become more disciplined and focused overall.

Take Notes

To keep up with all the new material you'll be learning in class on a daily basis, it's a good idea to take notes. Doing so will help you pay attention in class and give you a resource to use when you have assignments. In future grades, you might return to freshman year topics. Therefore, taking notes in the 9th grade will also help you prepare for the 10th grade. In addition, the notes you take will be at your disposal to review for tests.

Use a Planner

As a 9th grade student, being organized is also essential to passing on to the next grade. Many students struggle because they constantly lose things or forget to complete assignments. Using a planner will help you avoid this problem. By incorporating a planner, you'll be able to keep track of the assignments you have and when they are due.
