Math Games from Arcademic Skill Builders

Your 8-year-old will have plenty to do once he gets started with these free, interactive math games. You'll find several categories of games appropriate for the third grade level, including telling time, dividing, multiplying and learning basic money operations. The site is easy to navigate, with one main page listing the math topics. Click on the math unit you want your child to practice, such as multiplication, and that brings you to a page with all the available games. Everything is free and no subscription is required.

Mr. Nussbaum's Math Activities

Many of these math games are suitable for 8-year-olds, since they review some of the concepts learned in first and second grade and also cover third grade topics, such as multiplication and division. The games are set in creative locations, like a snowy ski slope, a bowling alley or at a garage sale. They have simple instructions and integrate festive images with math equations.

The games have a strip of color under their titles, which match up with a key at the top of the page that tells you which grade the games were made for. Keep in mind that some games marked for second or fourth grades might work for your 8-year-old in addition to the third grade options. You can also find educational resources for your child in other school subjects, like history and geography.

Third Grade Games from Math-Play.com

These sports-based computer games are designed especially for third graders. The games help kids work on understanding place value, adding 2-digit numbers and multiplying 1-digit numbers by numbers that have up to three digits. Multiplication is the most common skill practiced, showing up in six of the ten games. Some of the games allow kids to customize their game by selecting an outfit or character. If your child needs help increasing his or her speed with multiplication facts, look for games that include a time challenge. There are single and multiplayer games available.
