Math Superstars Overview

How the Program Works

Math Superstars is an enrichment program that your child may have the opportunity to participate in at his or her school. This program is ideal for self-motivated learners who are looking for a challenging math experience. Each school can determine which grade levels can participate in the Math Superstars program, but it is typically offered to elementary students.

Participants in the voluntary Math Superstars program are asked to complete one worksheet each week. The worksheets contain problems at various difficulty levels, and you should explain to your child that he or she isn't expected to know how to answer every question. To successfully complete the worksheet, your child will need to use his or her critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You'll be encouraged to facilitate your child's problem solving, but parents are asked not to offer students the answers to the worksheets.

The Math Superstars program is intended to serve as a supplement to the mathematical skills your child has learned in the classroom. This additional practice will help to ensure that your child masters important mathematical skills. For instance, if your child did not have the opportunity to fully grasp long division, a Math Superstar worksheet on this skill could help him or her gain confidence with it before moving on to a new skill. These worksheets can also help students review skills that they haven't used recently.

How the Math Superstars Program Benefits Students

The Math Superstars program has an effective design that can make learning math exciting for children. Schools are encouraged to allow their students to earn points or prizes for completing Math Superstar worksheets. Providing a tangible reward system will help students learn to set a goal and work to attain it.

The Math Superstars program benefits students by providing them with a chance to become independent learners, which is likely to give them an added advantage in all areas of life. Keep in mind that any type of extra mathematics practice is likely to contribute to your child's success.
