Memphis GED: How to Get Your GED in Memphis

What Are the GED Tests?
The GED tests measure skills and concepts learned during a regular high school program of instruction. Passing the tests demonstrates that you have attained the level of knowledge equal to that of a high school graduate. The GED certificate is recognized by most employers and colleges as the equivalent of a high school diploma. The test is divided into five subject areas, including reading, writing, social studies, mathematics and science.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
You can take the test if you're 18 and have not graduated from high school or received an equivalency certificate. You're allowed to take the test at 17 providing you:
- Are not currently enrolled in school
- Are currently enrolled in a GED Option Program
- Present an age waiver signed by the superintendent of your school district
All applicants must show valid photo identification to be admitted to the test center. Acceptable types of ID include driver's licenses, passports or other forms of government-issued ID. In addition to the above requirements, all Tennessee residents must take an Official Practice Test (OPT). Where Can I Find a Testing Center?

The GED is available in other languages, including Spanish and French. There is also a special version for the visually impaired. Accommodations are available for individuals with documented disabilities.
What Are Passing Scores?
In order to receive a diploma, you must score a total of 2,250 on the test. Additionally, no single test score can be lower than 410. You may take any test a total of three times per calendar year. Additionally, if you fail a test, you must wait 30 days to retake the test unless you obtain a waiver from the test center due to special circumstances.
