New York City Citywide Test for 7th Grade: Reading Examples and Sample Questions
Many students in grades 3-8 in New York City take a standardized English Language Arts (ELA) test every school year. This test is typically multiple-choice and assesses reading comprehension and fluency skills on a variety of passages. The New York State Education Department's Test Practice Resources

It offers a detailed guide of the material covered on the citywide ELA test. For instance, you can learn about how students are expected to answer the multiple-choice questions for reading passages. Each 7th grade ELA exam has at least one creative, one informational and one functional passage.
In addition, you can download End-of-Grade practice tests and administer them to your child at home. The available released exams are from 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
