Scholastic Reading Comprehension Activities

Scholastic offers interactive reading comprehension activities for 4th grade children. The activities engage kids while they practice reading comprehension skills. An introduction and list of learning objectives are available for each activity.

Fans of Inkheart by Cornelia Funke will enjoy the tie-in activities while they practice reading skills such as making predictions, cause and effect and summarizing. Online quizzes and answers are available. Additionally, you can find an article about the life of Martin Luther King Jr., which is followed by a multiple-choice quiz. A parent's page has more printable reading comprehension worksheets available on such subjects as America's first people and food for fitness.

EDinformatics' State Standardized Reading Tests

EDinformatics has questions and answers for most state standardized tests available on its website. Some states have sample questions available, while others have archived copies of the entire reading comprehension test. All answers are provided. You may find it beneficial to give your child tests from a variety of states, because practicing with actual tests will give your child the advantage of seeing how the questions are formatted.

RHL School's Reading Worksheets

RHL School has reading worksheets and answer keys available for students in the upper elementary grades through high school. The worksheets provide a review of reading skills, like finding the main idea, using context clues and inferencing.

Most questions require multiple-choice or short-answer responses. One worksheet called 'All That Glitters' asks children to read short passages and make deductions and inferences about them. In 'Dog Face', kids read a paragraph and fill in the missing words they select from the bottom of the page. In addition, the reading passages cover a wide variety of interesting subjects, including science essays, poetry and biographies. As a result, your child will likely find something that piques his or her interest.
