Online Practice Tests from Pearson Longman

Pearson Longman is a website where you and your child can find free reading test preparation passages and questions for grades 1-8. There are multiple-choice questions available as well as written responses. Although you'll have to score the tests that your child completes yourself, detailed scoring instructions are included on the site. You can view the exams in your browser or print them.

The Texas Education Agency's Released Tests and Study Guides

You'll often find released reading exams on states' department of education websites. Because state standards tend to be similar from state to state, your child can benefit from taking sample tests from states outside of your own. For a solid example, your child can take the reading section of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), which is available from the Texas Education Agency for grades 3-10. The Texas Education Agency releases new tests every three years with the most recent from 2009. The reading portion of the exam contains a series of passages followed by multiple-choice questions.

In addition to released tests, the Texas Education Agency also provides study guides that you can download and print. These guides are available in both English and Spanish. They include information about the TAKS and education standards, as well as a number of practice reading questions and answer keys.

Free Reading Comprehension Worksheets from Education.com

The reading comprehension worksheets from Education.com can help your child considerably with his or her reading skills because they provide repetitive practice. You can organize the worksheets here by grade level as well as a number of reading sub-topics, which include comprehension, literary analysis, phonics, sight words, rhyming and vocabulary.
