Seventh Grade TAKS Math Review: Practice for the TAKS Test

Seventh graders in Texas take the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) every spring, which assess students based on the state standards. Your child can practice with these online math problems to prepare for the real exam.

The Texas Education Agency's Practice Exams

For specific test practice, your child can take a released 7th grade math TAKS test from 2009, which is available from the archives of the Texas Education Agency. Taking this test will give your child a chance to assess his or her level and try to improve before the real test. In order to prepare for the actual TAKS, your child should take this practice test in a quiet setting, perhaps with a timer.

This multiple-choice exam cannot be completed online, but you can download it from the site, print it out and have your child fill it in manually. An answer key is also available for download. Some of the topics found on this exam are calculating percents, probability, angles and measuring volume. The exam has 48 questions.

HelpingWithMath.com's Worksheets

Several pre-made, PDF worksheets from this site can help your child prepare for the TAKS exam. One way to prepare might be to have your child take the full-length practice exam first, and then use these worksheets to target specific trouble areas. Some of the topics found on these worksheets are probability, integers and geometry. To view the answer key, simply click 'show answers' at the top of each worksheet.

Online Games from Math-Play.com

These math-based computer games can help your child prepare for the annual TAKS exam in a fun way. The games combine energetic music, colorful graphics and storylines to present math problems without the usual dullness of math review. You'll find games that deal with algebraic expressions, one-step equations and dividing integers. Some of the games can be played with friends (although single-player options are also available) making them even less homework-like. The games have all different themes, ranging from sports, like basketball and car racing, to TV game shows, with games based on 'Jeopardy' and 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'
