Square Root Math Problems, Solutions and Explanations

Children first learn how to find square roots in middle school and continue working with them throughout high school. If your child could use some extra at home review problems, the following sites may come in handy.

Worksheet Generator from HomeSchoolMath.net

Your son or daughter can practice perfect squares with the worksheets at HomeSchoolMath.net. By using this site's worksheet generator, you can create customized worksheets that practice other square root skills too. For example, students will use square roots when learning common formulas like the Pythagorean theorem, the distance formula and the quadratic equation. You can find Pythagorean theorem worksheets here as well.

Kuta Software's Free Printable Worksheets

Square roots are learned in pre-algebra, and the skills used for determining roots are then improved in more advanced high school math classes. Your kid can practice simplifying radicals and calculating square roots with the worksheets at KutaSoftware.com. Sheets offering practice of other operations with square roots are also available. You can select from pages covering pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2 and geometry. Basic square root problems can be found in the pre-algebra section.

The worksheets offered here are very plainly designed, with black type on a white background. Answer sheets appear right after the question sheets, all in PDF format for easy printing. None of the sheets can be completed online.

Online Square Root Problems from Softschools.com

Here, your child can practice finding square roots online. This site allows you to save paper and time by having the whole practice session take place on the computer. All you need is an Internet connection to make it work. One potential drawback is that the site is not always the easiest to navigate. This means it is sometimes more efficient to find what you want by searching the name of the site with the type of math problem you are looking for in a search engine.

Also, correct answers are not given when your child gets a wrong answer - there will simply be a tally of correct and incorrect answers. For this reason, SoftSchools.com may be most helpful for your child after he or she has gained some experience with square roots elsewhere.
