Tulsa GED: Earning a GED in Tulsa, OK

What Is the GED?
The GED tests consist of five sub-tests: reading, writing, science, social studies and mathematics. Most questions are multiple-choice. Additionally, the writing portion requires an essay. You may use a calculator for part of the math test.
By passing all five tests, you receive an Oklahoma State High School Diploma, which demonstrates that you have attained an equivalent level of knowledge as a high school graduate. Most colleges and employers accept the GED diploma.
Who Is Eligible?
You must be a resident of Oklahoma to take the exam. Also, you cannot be currently enrolled in high school or have graduated from high school. You can take the test as early as age 16 if you also have an approved test agreement signed by your parent or guardian and a school official.
Where Can I Take the Test?
You can't take the GED online; it must be taken at an official test center. To find a local center, visit the Oklahoma GED Testing website. You can sign up for the GED in person at the test center. The test takes 7.5 hours to complete and is usually spread out over two days.
The test is available in different languages, including Spanish. In addition, accommodations are available for documented disabilities. Everyone must show a valid photo ID before being admitted to the test.
What Is a Passing Score?
You must attain a total score of 2,250 to pass the GED, which averages to about 450 on each exam. In addition, you must receive at least a 410 on each sub-test. Any score lower than 410 must be retaken regardless of what the overall score is. You can retake any of the tests. However, you can only take the tests up to three times a calendar year.
How Do I Prepare for the GED?
Adult education centers offering free or low-cost preparation classes are located throughout Oklahoma. In addition, manuals and other instructional materials can be found in libraries and bookstores. The Oklahoma Department of Education website lists online resources for practice tests, sample questions and instruction.
