Tlsbooks.com's Free Vocabulary Worksheets

Tlsbooks.com has vocabulary worksheets to download by grade level. You can select from a variety of worksheets addressing particular vocabulary skills. Missing Vegetable Vowels has younger kids fill in the missing letters to spell the name of a common vegetable. Vocabulary Development instructs children to use a word list to fill in the missing word in a sentence.

You can also help your 6th grader practice vocabulary with worksheets on analogies and synonyms. Answer keys are provided for all worksheets.

Vocabulary Word Games from FunBrain.com

FunBrain.com provides a safe online environment with word games that combine learning and entertainment. Vocabulary games are available for K-8th grade. Many games allow you to pick a level of difficulty.

In Scramble-Saurus, players select games with misspelled words to unscramble. Clues are given and answers are immediately scored online. There's also a word confusion game where children can help Regan the Vegan make a salad by selecting from two sound-alike words to complete a sentence.

In The Plural Girls, players help twin sisters get their friends out of a bubble machine by selecting the correct plural form of a word. This game allows you to select either multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank responses.

PBS KIDS' Vocabulary Games and Activities

PBS KIDS offers many online vocabulary games for your elementary school child. Younger children can select games featuring characters from Sesame Street, such as Murray's Word on the Street and In the Nick of Rhyme.

Older children practice word opposites by playing Super Why's Reading Power Bingo. In Super Why's Story Book Creator, kids select a familiar fairy tale and make changes to create their own version of the story. Some games are available as apps to download so your kids can practice vocabulary skills on the road.
