Math Help

Students in the Sylvan kindergarten math tutoring program focus on the foundational skills they need to develop lifelong confidence in math. In addition to ordering numbers and counting, your child will learn to identify basic shapes such as triangles, circles and rectangles and compare and order objects based on size and shape. The program makes math more accessible through fun problem solving games and learning aids.
Each individualized learning plan is developed based on a learning assessment that helps identify the specific skills your child needs help with in order to understand and master kindergarten math. The tutoring program aligns with the guidelines developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Reading Help

The Sylvan tutors use a fun, motivation-based instructional model to help your kindergartener become excited about reading. Following the recommendations of the National Reading Panel, the Sylvan kindergarten reading program will build your child's reading abilities one skill at a time. Core competencies include:

1. Phonemic awareness
2. Recognizing all the letters of the alphabet
3. Vocabulary and word recognition
4. Reading single-syllable words

The program also develops reading comprehension, helping students learn to predict narrative outcomes and both ask and answer questions about a story. Each individualized learning plan includes guided reading practice to help keep your child excited and engaged.
