Algebra Lessons from Coolmath.com

Your child can review algebra by reading these free, online lessons. The lessons are written in a kid-friendly style with colorful diagrams and a font that resembles handwriting. You'll find 25 categories on the algebra page. Clicking on any one of them leads to a page with subcategories, where your child can find explanations for specific problem areas.

Online practice problems can be found in the lessons and in the Algebra Cruncher. Questions come up one at a time and are corrected automatically. You can't print out these problems like a worksheet, so working on them requires a constant Internet connection.

Worksheets from Kuta Software

These printable, PDF worksheets cover many algebra topics. Some of the problems deal with solving for proportions, rational equations, exponents, systems of equations and polynomials. You'll find the main algebra page divided into blue boxes, where each box represents a unit. A box might be labeled 'Radical Expressions,' for instance, and then inside the box there will be more specific subtopics. Worksheets are included for each subtopic. An answer key comes with the worksheets, but written explanations are not given.

Purplemath's Lessons

Your child can read through these detailed algebra lessons to gain a greater understanding of each concept learned in algebra class. One section even explains how to solve algebra word problems. These pages may be ideal for students if they find their textbook too limited in its explanations. Topics are divided into beginning, intermediate and advanced algebra.

The lessons tend to be thorough and incorporate many sample problems into the explanations. The solutions are also color coded to help students follow the steps. Although there aren't any online practice problems included, your child can solve the equations along with the website. The questions are green and the answers are purple, so children can solve the problems independently and then check their answers.
