Free Word Problems and Games at Math Playground

This website features story problems for grades 1-7, as well as SAT word problems for students in 7th grade and above. Some of these combine computer games with word problems for a very lively and engaging math review. The problems increase in difficulty as your child works through them. Several story problem activities are offered, and some combine single and multi-step problems.

Some of the word problem games have themes to interest kids, such as baseball and basketball. Several problems feature videos explaining how to work through the problem, while others only give you the solutions. There is also a story problem activity where different solutions are offered and your child must determine which one is correct. A Flash Player is required.

Story Problems by Super Teacher Worksheets

These free elementary-level word problems may help your child prepare for school tests and improve math homework skills. The problems deal with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. There are also story problems covering fractions, averages and counting money. The word problems are available as printable worksheets. Some of the worksheets require your child to complete mixed math problems.

Many worksheets offer space for your child to show work. Most of them have answer keys, but there are no step-by-step explanations of how to do the problems.

Free Word Problem Practice from WorksheetWorks.com

You can find a variety of math worksheets featuring story problems in addition, subtraction, probability, division, multiplication and more. There are also word problem worksheets featuring mixed operations. The worksheets are customizable. For example, the addition and subtraction worksheets provide options to use numerals or have the numbers spelled out. You can also decide if you want the story problems to take place in the past, present, future or a combination.

Once you choose the desired options, click on 'create worksheet,' and a PDF file will be generated for you to print out. An answer key also prints out that shows the problems written out with the answers. If your child needs to continue practicing word problems that use the same operation, you can generate different problems each time you click the 'create worksheet' button.
