Math Help: 4th Grade Measurement Websites
In 4th grade, students study different types of measurement. In addition to learning how to measure length in inches or centimeters, students may learn how to measure temperature, weight and time. If your 4th grader is struggling with measurement, he or she may be able to get help from the following websites.
AAA Math's Lessons
Your child can review measurement by reading the free 4th grade lessons offered here and by completing online practice problems. These explanations cover measurements of time, mass, volume, length, temperature and the metric system. Some pages just have a simple chart listing measurement conversions, while others provide written descriptions of the topics. The practice problems are computer-based. One question shows up, and once you type in an answer and hit the 'check answer' button, the solution will appear.
One of the largest sections is on time measurement. Your son or daughter can go over everything from how to calculate time zones to how many seconds are in a minute, and how many minutes are in an hour. Some worksheets cover how many weeks are in a year. The automatic practice problems can really help your 4th grader feel comfortable with time measurement.
Activities from Math Worksheets 4 Kids
These free, printable PDF worksheets can help your child review measurements concerning length, weight and capacity. A chart for U.S. customary units of measurement is included. A good starting activity is the worksheet that asks your child to choose the best unit of measurement to use when measuring items like a pencil, a bedroom, a book or even something as personal as his or her face. Other worksheets will help your child practice converting one unit of measurement to another.
For example, the worksheet on linear measurements asks your child to convert feet to inches, yards to feet and miles to yards. A capacity worksheet has your child convert cups to fluid ounces, pints to quarts, quarts to gallons and even tablespoons to teaspoons. A worksheet on weight measurements addresses how ounces translate to pounds and pounds to tons. There is also a worksheet that covers standard metric units such as kilometers, meters, centimeters and millimeters. All the worksheets come with an answer key.
Worksheets from Math-Drills.com
Your child can also practice measuring by completing the measurement worksheets here. Rather than concentrating on time or American linear measurements, these worksheets deal mainly with area, perimeter and metric conversions. You'll also see worksheets dealing with telling time, rounding and converting Celsius to Fahrenheit. Some of these may be a bit too advanced for 4th graders, but you can use your child's textbook to match the website and determine which activities are appropriate.
