How to Get Homework Help: Tips for Students

Work with the Teacher

Your first step is to discuss the situation with the person who assigned you the work in the first place: your teacher. Teachers try to do their best to make sure students understand how to complete the work that is sent home, but it doesn't always work. If you are a student who's having difficulty comprehending how to do the assignment, you need to be responsible and let your teacher know. He or she will then be able to explain the directions better. Alternatively, your teacher may set you up with a peer who can help you or meet with you for a private tutoring session before or after school.

Talk to Your Parents

Believe it or not, your parents were your age at one time and had to do some of the same type of work in school, so they may be able to assist you. At the very least, talking to your parents about your difficulty with completing your homework will make them aware of the situation. Additionally, if they are unable to help you themselves, they can find you help from other sources, such as a learning center.

Partner with a Friend

Even if a homework assignment is really hard, you don't want to simply copy answers from a friend because then you won't learn anything. However, it's okay to work with someone on the assignment and help each other out. Instead of just copying each other's answers, discuss the problems one at a time and come up with the best answer. By partnering with a friend, you'll be able to benefit from his or her strengths and vice versa.

Get a Tutor

Finally, if you're constantly having trouble with your homework, you may want to look into tutoring options. Some schools offer free in-school tutoring programs. Ask your teacher if there are any in your school district. Alternatively, you can get a private tutor that can meet you at your home, or your parents may be able to enroll you into an after-school tutoring program. In addition, a simple search on the Internet will provide you with plenty of online tutoring services and resources.
