Find Help at School

When you fall too far behind, it can be hard to catch up before the end of the semester. Many high school math teachers are willing to give help outside of class time, so you could arrange to meet with your teacher before school, after school or during free periods. Many high schools also have drop-in math labs staffed by teachers and aides who can give additional support.

Study with Friends

If you're struggling in math class, some of your friends might be able to help. Everyone is different in terms of what challenges them, so it may be the case that you can help explain certain math topics to your friends, and they can help you with geometry. Try forming a weekly study group devoted exclusively to geometry practice. You can meet once a week in a location conducive to studying, like your school library, and spend an hour working through problems.

Practice Techniques

When you get together with your study group, there are a few different ways you can go about practicing. You could prepare a list of geometry problems from your book, write some problems yourself or even ask your teacher for additional worksheets.

You can also make studying more fun by inventing some math games. For example, you could give each person a certain amount of time to work out a small group of problems. Each player earns one point for each correct problem, and if there's a tie, the person who finished first wins. To make things more interesting, you could agree that the other players will bake the winner brownies or carry her books around school the following day.

Practice Exams

You can create your own practice exams with a bit of help from your geometry teacher, a parent or a tutor. Use the units in your textbook to create a long list of practice problems. Try to make the exam the same length as the ones you will be taking in school, and set yourself up to take your practice exam in a quiet room without distractions. Set a timer, and only give yourself the amount of time you'll have on the real test. You can have a parent or teacher check your answers and help you with the problems you missed.
