7th Grade Sample ISAT Test and Questions

In Illinois every year, students in 3rd through 8th grade take the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT). Idaho also has an ISAT - the Idaho Standards Achievement Test - which is given to students in grades 3-10. For both tests, 7th grade students are assessed in reading, math and science. Help your child prepare by giving him or her a sample ISAT test at home.

Sample Tests from the Illinois State Board of Education

The Illinois State Board of Education provides sample ISAT tests from previous years. Taking a sample test can help your child get used to the types of questions that appear on the ISAT. Similar types of questions appear on the test each year.

You can either print out a test book or take an online assessment. The printable version contains an answer key with assessment objectives for each problem. While you're grading your child's sample test, look for patterns in the problems that he gets wrong. The assessment objectives can help you figure out what your 7th grader needs to review before the actual exam. The online test provides sample questions that are graded instantly.

Idaho's Sample ISATs

The Idaho State Department of Education provides multiple-choice test samples for 7th grade in reading, language usage, math and science. These sample tests are PDF files, so they must be printed. An answer key is also provided on the final page, along with state objectives.

On this site, you can find other resources to help your child prepare, such as vocabulary lists for reading, math and science. It can be beneficial to go over the contents of each test with your 7th grader so that he or she knows what to expect. For instance, the language arts assessment is made up of two tests, one in reading and the other in language usage.

Additional Practice from Prepdog.com

The more familiar your child is with the test-taking process, the better she will do when taking the actual ISAT, so consider giving your 7th grader extra practice in math, reading and language with Prepdog.com's online practice tests. The tests are based on the Northwest Evaluation Association's RIT Scale and the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). Test questions are submitted by teachers, and you can choose basic, proficient and advanced level tests for each subject. Once your child completes the multiple-choice test, she can click the 'Check Your Work' button to get immediate feedback.
