7th Grade TAKS Study Guides and Practice Tests

Passing the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) shows that your child has mastered 7th grade school work. In addition to working hard all year, your child can complete extra TAKS practice to get ready. Read on for more information.

Students in 7th grade in Texas take the TAKS in math, reading and writing. If your child is in a public or one of many private schools that administer the TAKS, he or she will be tested on skills outlined in the Texas core learning standards, which are called the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). The TAKS exam is administered in the spring.

Study Guides from the Texas Education Agency

When your 7th grader is preparing for the TAKS, he or she may want to consult a study guide in order to know exactly what's going to be tested and how. You can find official 7th grade study guides from the Texas Education Agency. These guides address everything from the TEKS to the official test sections and objectives.

In addition to study guides, the Texas Education Agency also offers free, downloadable TAKS exams that your child can use to practice. These tests are released every three years by the state of Texas. The latest released tests are from 2009.

Tests from Scott Hochberg

TAKS practice tests are also available for download from the website of state representative Scott Hochberg. These exams are the same ones released by the Texas Education Agency; however, they are formatted in a different way that you and your 7th grader might like better. A cover sheet with essential facts about the TAKS is included, along with information about curriculum objectives and an answer key.

Interactive Test Preparation from EDinformatics

EDinformatics is a useful, interactive testing resource that your child can use online. The 7th grade TAKS on the site are from 2003 and cover math, reading and English/language arts. Your child can complete the tests online and then have them scored automatically. Then, your child can see the correct answers side by side with his or her own. The objective of each question is also clearly stated and simple to follow.
